The vice general secretary in charge of the department of culture and arts of the Municipality of Istanbul Mahir Polat is one of the 105 people who got arrested along with Istanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on the 19th of March 2025. According to his lawyer Erkam Erdem’s declarations on the 4th and 6th of April, “Mahir Polat’s risk of suffering from a heart attack or cerebral hemorrhage is still present due to his high blood pressure. […] His life is still in danger and the conditions in prison only make his health worse”. On the 9th of April, Mahir Polat’s pretrial detention was transformed into an unjustified house arrest.
